Firm A: a single office provincial firm In Firm A, training is currently provided by a training facilitator, experts from within the firm, and by sending people on external courses. Firm A will pilot Firm Academy for 2 - 3 year qualifieds, supporting the training provided by the facilitator. Firm Academy will also be used as the foundation for a development programme to groom associates for partnership. The firm can see potential for using video to capture expertise from within the firm and make it available through Firm Academy. The investment in Firm Academy will be offset by savings on external training courses. |

Firm B: a leading regional firm with 3 offices Firm B has some learning resources on its intranet but they are not regarded as particularly user-friendly. The firm is attracted to the idea of having a more professional virtual academy to support learning and development throughout the firm. Firm B will initially pilot Firm Academy for its trainee group, with a view to making it more widely available throughout the firm in the future. |

Firm C: a leading specialist firm with 8 offices around the UK Much of the Firm C’s work is increasingly carried out by paralegals, for whom there has not previously been a structured training programme. Firm C will use Firm Academy, tailored and branded for the firm, as the basis for a comprehensive learning and development programme for paralegals. Whilst they will make use of the learning resources already available within Firm Academy, these will be supplemented by specially developed resources created by the firm’s own experts, with support from Firm Academy. |

Firm D: a full-service City firm with a reputation for innovation Firm D will initially pilot Firm Academy to support a business development programme for associates. Firm Academy resources will also be made available to partners as part of a training programme related to business development. |

Firm E: one of the largest international firms with offices throughout the world Firm E has a well developed approach to knowledge management and has on-line resources to support its technical training programmes. However, the firm does not currently have the manpower to search and filter the best videos and other rich media available on business skills topics.
Firm E will use Firm Academy to identify resources that can then be accessed directly through the firm’s intranet. |
